What is RTMP?
The RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) enables you to broadcast livestreams with minimum delay, while guaranteeing image and sound quality, and allowing you to manage the various video and audio streams from AV production.
Dotted lines indicate an Internet connection
- Audio and video streams: These are sent to the AV production for centralization.
- AV production: Mixes the different streams and selects those to be sent to the server.
- Server: Sends the broadcast to attendees connected to your live event.
- Attendees: They receive the broadcast from the server while connected to your event's live stream.
What are the advantages of RTMP?
Machine centralization:
RTMP lets you connect your audiovisual equipment directly to the broadcast server.
The protocol therefore reduces the risks associated with using multiple devices such as computers, converters, or interfaces for embedding/de-embedding the signal.
RTMP broadcasting from a AV production also enables you to split video streams according to your needs.
For example, an on-site attendee only needs to see the slides, while a remote attendee needs to be able to see both the slides and the presenter at the same time.
Low latency:
One of the main advantages of RTMP is its low latency. By enabling fast data transmission, the protocol minimizes the time lag between broadcast source and live viewer (approx. 20 to 40 seconds between transmitter and viewer).
Improved broadcast quality:
RTMP is designed to guarantee reliable data transmission, which translates into improved broadcast quality.
Broadcasters can count on consistent, smooth delivery, even with high-resolution video.
Manage feeds from the AV production:
From your AV production, you can manage outgoing audio and video streams.
This means you can change the video source as well as the audio source at any time during the live show.
Virtual AV production:
If you don't have access to a hardware AV production, you can launch your RTMP live event using a virtual AV production that you can download from your computer.
You'll be able to manage incoming and outgoing audio/video streams, create scenes...etc.
What's the difference with Workshop and Plenary modes?
Broadcast function | Workshop | Plenary | RTMP |
Attendees can participate | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ |
Maximum attendees (Depends on the number of audio/video streams) | 4000 with 1 stream | 3000 | 1800 |
Delay between transmitter and viewer | Few secondes | 25-40 secondes | 25-40 secondes |
Maximum audio/video streams | 9 | 9 |
No limits because the streams are manage on the AV production |
